Muslim travel & Hajj — where to pray, where to eat, and how not to be robbed

Finders for a strange city, honest about how patchy their coverage can be — and the one Islamic purchase where fraud is endemic and the official route is the least advertised one.

Hajj and Umrah fraud is endemic, and it peaks every season. Packages sold outside licensed channels are the main vector, and victims usually discover it at the airport. Book through the official Saudi platform or a licensed operator you have verified yourself — never on the strength of a social-media advert, a WhatsApp forward, or a deposit requested by bank transfer to a personal account.

Treat coverage as patchy and dates as stale. These are community-maintained directories, not verified databases: coverage is strong in some countries and thin in others, opening times drift, and a masjid that has moved may still be listed at the old address. Ring ahead before you rely on one for jumu’ah, and check a restaurant’s own certification rather than the directory’s tag.
